Sega has unveiled Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, previously Project Needlemouse, on Gamespot (linked above) which will be downloadable on Sony’s PS3, Microsoft’s XBox 360 and the Nintendo Wii console.

While the game retains the classic 2D gameplay that made the series great, Sonic 4 will include 3D visuals, and be digitally released over Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, WiiWare and the iPhone. Continue reading »

Super Street Fighter IV is a 2D fighting game. And what’s the best way to promote a 2D fighting game? With some classy 2D animation, of course.

This trailer for the game was whipped up by GONZO, the Japanese animation studio behind stuff like Afro Samurai. And, yeah, it’s pretty great.

Interesting revelation here, the late Michael Jackson actually played a huge helping hand in creating the soundtrack for Sonic 3. The news comes via Brad Buxer who conducted an interview with Black and White which was spotted by Spong.

We have just heard that Nintendo has today lost a major court case against the Divineo group in the main court of Paris. Nintendo originally took the group to court over DS flash carts, however the judge today has ruled against Nintendo and suggested that they are purposely locking out developers from their consoles and things should be more like Windows where ANYONE can develop any application if they wish to.

The ramifications of this are huge, as it indicates that flash carts are actually legal. Therefore, developers should not actually require separate development kits and should just be able to develop applications as they wish on retail versions of Nintendo’s consoles. Continue reading »

Nokia promotes N900 emulation

In a surprising – and arguably illegal – move Finnish mobile giant Nokia has chosen to highlight the emulation functionality of its N900 smartphone on its Nokia Conversation blog, according to ME.

The promotional video, which can be seen below, shows a dedicated emulation menu sporting buttons for the likes of the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, NES, SNES, Spectrum, MSX and Game Gear.

Gameplay clips of both Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros 3 are also shown in the video.
Emulation programmes themselves aren’t illegal but downloading ROMs – which are essentially digital forms of games that are loaded within an emulator – are illegal unless the person downloading possesses an original copy of the game. The distribution of ROMs is illegal no matter the circumstance.

Check out the video below:

However, their complaints against devices such as the R4 have been dismissed by a Spanish Judge who ruled that the respective devices can actually ADD functionality to the DS and it’s not all about piracy!
